Day Hikes
Deep in the heart of the Tongass National Forest, Wrangell offers great opportunities to explore the largest temperate rainforest in North America. Our old growth forests of SE Alaska are comprised of trees that started growing over 400 years ago in the shade of the dense canopy. As heat rises from the forest floor, sun beams shine through the prism of water drops created by the mist. The Wrangell Ranger District and the City of Wrangell have created a series of trails that provide access into this dynamic environment. Some trails are accessible by water only, others by car and a few shorter trails can be reached by foot from downtown. Wrangell’s golf course Muskeg Meadows provides a great opportunity in the early morning hours for birders.
Our day hikes can be tailored for all and can take anywhere from 30 minutes to all day and from easy to extreme. You tell us what you want and we’ll provide the guide, packs, water and food.
