For those adventurers that prefer canoes, we stock a limited number of royalex canoes in our rental program. After testing a variety of canoe sizes and styles in search of the best choice for both the Stikine, a fast large volume river, and the protected waters between the islands, we settled on the Old Town 172 tripper as our boat of choice. Our rental program includes life jackets and paddles. Dry bags and a selection of camping gear is available. Rates are $65 per day plus tax. Please call for more information.

Experienced rafters planning an extended trip along the lower Stikine from Telegraph Creek to Wrangell should consider our 16 ft self bailing ERS boats from NRS. Our boats are rented complete with an expedition sized aluminum rowing frame, padded seat, straps, repair kit, pump, life jackets, spare oar, gear trampoline and cargo net. These rafts and gear are designed to be broken down to fit inside a small airplane to take advantage of the least expensive mode of transportation to the put in. Please contact John or Sylvia for more information and to help plan your trip. Rates are $110 per day. There is a $500 damage and $200 cleaning deposit. Reservations are required.

The kayak was invented in Alaska, still the best place for a paddle. Alaska Vistas rents all the gear you’ll need, and we can also provide drop-off and taxi service to some great paddling destinations.

Options around Wrangell include extended trips on the Stikine, or day paddles in the flats at the river’s mouth. LeConte Bay makes for beautiful kayaking, among the ice that’s come off the glacier’s face. For the experienced paddler, a trip through the Wrangell Narrows to Petersburg might be just the thing.

A kayak is also a great addition to a stay at one of the area’s USFS cabins.

The sheltered waters around Wrangell are perfect for paddlers of all levels of experience, and our staff can help you find the best destination for your trip.

We rent light and easily maneuverable fiberglass doubles and singles, custom made for us by Northwest Kayaks of Seattle. All rentals include Lotus Designs life jackets, Aquabound or Big Spoons paddles, Snap Dragon sprayskirts, paddle floats, sponges, and bilge pumps—everything you need for your trip. We also have dry bags for rental or sale. Rental rates are $65 per 24 hr day for doubles and $50 per 24hr day for singles. Hourly rentals are available.

A kayak is your chance to experience Alaska from water level, the best view of all.
